As a 2-Cycle Small Engine Technician, you’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain handheld outdoor power equipment while helping deliver an exceptional service experience for customers.
You’ll work alongside fellow technicians and service staff to complete repairs efficiently, safely, and to manufacturer standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Service Duties
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain 2-cycle small engines and related equipment
- Perform carburetor repairs, fuel system service, ignition diagnostics, and engine rebuilds
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues efficiently and accurately
- Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper operation and quality workmanship
- Follow OEM service procedures and warranty guidelines
- Communicate repair information clearly and professionally when needed
- Work closely with service writers, managers, coordinators, and technicians
- Contribute to a positive, team-focused work environment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service area
- Follow all shop safety and security procedures
- Properly handle and dispose of fuels, oils, and shop materials
- Stay current on product updates and technical training
- Focus on accuracy, efficiency, and high-quality repairs
- Look for ways to improve workflow and service quality
We’re looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in fixing equipment correctly, and thrives in a fast-paced service environment.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience repairing 2-cycle small engines
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read service manuals and technical diagrams
- Basic computer skills for work orders and documentation
- 1–3 years of outdoor power equipment or small engine repair experience
- Manufacturer certifications (STIHL, Echo, Husqvarna, etc.) are a plus
- Experience in a dealership or retail service environment
- Ability to lift and handle up to 70 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Fast-paced service shop environment
- Exposure to mechanical parts, fuel, lubricants, and shop noise
- Team-oriented service department focused on quality and efficiency
